I've been thinking lately about how we are a culture. We are many things, as fandom, but many of the words don't fit for the whole. We are not a community so much as a collection of fluid communities, interchanging at will, not so much a movement, or a hobby, or anything else I can't remember thinking now ( Read more... )

Films rarely knock me sideways, and they rarely inspire much of a reaction in me. Mostly, the timespan is too short to connect to characters, and the writing tropes have been done before, and real human emotion gets sacrificed on the way to quick fixes and standard plots. This description just fits to a tee how I feel about fandom. From caras_galadhon, here:

I love it fiercely and deeply, and it has given me far, far more than I could ever have asked. Even in the moments where I want to set fire to the internet and scream and bang my head against the nearest brick wall, I know it's never not going to be a part of me.

There's about three people on my flist into it, and yeah, I've only just finished ep 22, but hey, here's it so far, because I'm too tired and with not enough time to think it through before typing it up, so, probably reinventing the fandom wheel here ( Read more... )
